The M97 Trench Gun is a primary weapon for the Assault class in Battlefield 1.
History
Winchester Model 1897, commonly referred to as the M97 or the Trench Gun, was another gun designed by the venerable John Browning. Developed from the Winchester Model 1893 shotgun, the Trench Gun eliminated many of the shortcomings of its predecessor. It was the perfect answer for the brutality of trench warfare, offering compact firepower in a maneuverable package. Its key feature was the absence of a trigger disconnector, allowing a soldier to fire as fast as they can work the slide. By the time it went out of production over a million units were produced, with some used as late as the Pacific War.
