In-Game Text[]
A truly legendary handgun, the M1911 is widely considered the greatest semi-automatic pistol ever made.
History[]
The M1911 is the proudest, most accomplished child of gunsmith patron saint John Moses Browning. Chambered in .45 Auto Colt Pistol, it is a single-action, semi-automatic, recoil-operated pistol with a box magazine providing eight shots. Scarcely two more than a revolver, but more than enough to send a Hun to meet his maker. It was, after all, built with stopping power in mind after the experiences of U.S. Army units in fighting Moro rebels during the Philippine-American War. The semi-automatic M1911 won over other designs in the competition for the next service pistol of the U.S. military forces, and when the American Expeditionary units landed in France to battle the Huns in 1918, they carried these into battle.
The end result? 70,000 first generation M1911s used in the field, starting an illustrious career lasting a century. From the holsters of Joes fighting in the trenches of World War One, through the jungles of the Pacific, to the asymmetrical conflicts of the modern times, the 2.7 million strong family of Colt M1911s visited every continent, killing every kind of people.
