History[]
The French M1909 Benét–Mercié was designed by Hotchkiss et Cie and adopted as a light machine gun by the French Army in 1909. Chambered in 8 mm Lebel, it was also manufactured in Great Britain in .303 British. Both nations used the LMG extensively, particularly ANZAC.
