In-Game Text[]
An American bolt-action rifle firing a low drag projectile, excellent for very long ranges.
History[]
A piece of American history, the Springfield M1903 originated from the experiences of the U.S. Army in the 1898 war with Spain. The M1893 Mauser rifle used by the Spaniards proved to be immensely superior to the slow-firing, difficult to use Springfield Model 1892-99 Krag-Jorgensen rifles used by Americans. The rifle was created at the Springfield Armory in an effort to provide American troops with a proper rifle. Reverse-engineering the Spanish Mauser 93 and combining it with a number of features taken from the Krag rifle resulted in the Model 1903. A Mauser at heart (in fact, the U.S. government was judged to pay $250 000 in royalties to Mauser Werke, after the company brought the case to court), it was a powerful, accurate, and reliable rifle that made its mark in France and went on to become one of the most reliable long-range weapons in the American arsenal through to the Korean War.
