The BAR is a light and effective machine rifle with a smaller magazine compared to other LMGs. It saw action in the fall of 1918.
History[]
Yet another weapon designed by John Browning, the BAR was designed to provide advancing infantry with additional firepower, replacing the abysmal Chauchat and reliable Benet-Mercie used by the U.S. before. Adopted in 1917, the BAR was neither a rifle nor a machine gun, while being more maneuverable than the LMG. Introduced to American units in Europe in September 1918, the BAR did not make a large impact on the war, as the 52,000 BARs came into play just three months before the War ended. It did, however, go on to serve for sixty more years until the introduction of dedicated squad automatic weapons.
